Most folks are pretty good at taking care of their vehicles. With the cost of upkeep and gasoline we want to make ensure that our cars start and run every time we get in.

But when was the last time you checked to make sure your car could stop running when you needed it to, especially in an emergency situation. You need to make sure your brakes are always functioning properly. There are a few things you can take care of yourself as far as maintenance and visual inspection, but unless you are experienced, get a mechanic to check it out for you.

First thing you should check is your tire pressure. Yes I know we started talking about brakes but if you have under inflated or over inflated tires. Too much pressure in your tires will cause them to bulge and you won’t be riding across the entire width of the tire, the way it was designed, and this will increase your stopping distance. Also under inflated tires will wear on the outer ribs and this will decrease your traction, which in turn lends itself to longer stopping distances. So keep your tires properly inflated. Buy a quality tire gauge, don’t go by the pressure gauge at the gas station as these are notoriously inaccurate. As a general guideline, try to check the pressure once a week or so. Plus check it if there are sudden dips and rides in temperature. Don’t forget the spare.

Don’t forget to also take a look at the brake fluid. Before removing the cap to your brake fluid reservoir, wipe the cap down, dirt and grime on it could end up in the fluid. Once you have determined the level and need to add some make sure you use DOT (Department of Transportation) 3 or 4. If the reservoir has two parts make sure you fill them both. While you have the hood open take a look for any leaks or cracked hoses. If needed get your car to your mechanic or dealer right away. A small issue can escalate and cause lots of problems.

The parts which make up the brakes themselves, rotors, pads, discs are pretty straightforward. Any visible physical damage is a sign that you need replacement parts. If you have less than 1/8 inch on your pads it is time to replace them. If your discs aren’t shiny or have deep grooves they may need replacing but they may also just need to be turned. Ask your mechanic if you aren’t sure. Slight lines in the disc are normal, but large grooves are not. Also make sure the hoses leading to your brake calipers are inspected as well and make sure there aren’t any cracks or leaks.

It’s important to keep your car in good condition because it improves your safety on the road. Remember to check your brakes at least twice a year. Use a calendar or a computer to keep track of your maintenance schedule. Or the old stand by of spring forward fall back and check your breaks when you put your clocks an hour ahead or back.

We’ve all had car breakdowns before and called Roadside Assistance for some help. We reach in our wallet and take out the membership card and within usually and hour someone is there to give us some assistance.

Thankfully, there are numerous things that we can take care of ourselves in order to reduce the risk of needing help on the road. One way is to make a check list of routine vehicle maintenance and keep on top of car repairs and preventive care. Of course this is not a fool proof plan but it’s a step in the right direction.

Have a spare key. Don’t get locked out of your car. Don’t rely on those magnetic boxes your grandfather used. Keep a spare in your purse. Some companies will make small plastic keys that you can keep in your wallet for opening your locked car. These are ten times better than a coat hanger.

Inspect the cables of batteries often. Make sure the battery is secure in it’s holder and that there is no corrosion around the battery posts (the + and -). Try to move the cables that are connected to the battery. If they move they need to be tightened. If they rusted or frayed either have them cleaned or replaced as necessary.

It’s not a good idea to drive on a gas tank that is almost empty. We have all pushed that needle to the maximum. Don’t get stuck on the road at night in the rain or snow or in a place with which you are unfamiliar because you thought you could go just a few more miles. I like to refill when I have 1/8th of a gas tank left. Naturally there will be occasions where I go past that but I never let the needle go past E. That’s not a very good idea

Did you know the five most common reasons for a breakdown. The Automotive Service Excellence compiled the following list: *	Leaking of Gas: Gas evaporates and its trapped in a canister until you start your engine. If there is a leak the check engine light will come on. Sometimes this is just a loose gas cap, but never assume. If in doubt it might be a good idea to visit a professional mechanic. *	Malfunctioning Batteries: Inspect your battery and have it replaced every three years or as recommended by the manufacturer. *	Overheating: Check to make sure that your engine gets cooled appropriately *	Flat tires and blowouts: The right pressure will prevent blowouts and flat tires *	Engine surge or hesitation: Dirty air filters, high heat and humidity are among the culprits. You car needs oxygen to run just like you. Anything that blocks or impedes the intake of oxygen is detrimental and harmful to your engine.

In the unfortunate case that you breakdown on the road, pull over as far to the right as you can and if you are on the freeway try to get off. Also make sure to have an emergency roadside kit in your trunk. This should consist of : *	8′ booster cables *	Flashlight *	Rags and towels *	Wet wipes (to clean up) *	Foam pad to kneel on *	Rain poncho *	Flares or reflective triangle(s) *	Duct tape

Take good care and more than likely you won’t ever have to make use of these items. However, it’s still to keep it in the trunk of your car just in case, because it’s better to be safe than sorry.

If you are one of millions who commute to work or whose job requires you to spend a majority of your time on the road, then you’re quite aware of the toll it takes on your vehicle. When miles are adding up on the odometer you may find yourself changing your oil as often as every few weeks. This adds up on the pocket book and is a real time suck.

Let’s say you could get the same awesome engine protection with fewer oil changes, would you be game? Long life synthetic oil and long life nano fiber synthetic filters are the perfect alternative for attaining those extended oil change intervals. The key when extending oil change intervals is to not sacrifice protection. When considering long life oil, there are three things you’ll want to look for…

A lot of reserve alkalinity is a must for long life oil. When your engine is running it’s producing acids as a byproduct from burning gasoline or diesel and the oil has to compensate by absorbing that acid and that’s in direct relation to the oil’s alkalinity. Over time the oils ability to neutralize the acid diminishes. Your engine’s insides will be demolished by the acid bath created if you wait too long to change your motor oil. A long life oil will have plenty of additives to soak up the acids for longer periods of time. You’ll want to be looking for an oil with a high Total Base Number which we’ll be referred to as a TBN.

No matter what oil you’re using, it’s going to burn off a little when you run your motor. It’s the nature of the beast! Some oils are designed better than others (of those that are really designed) to handle this issue. There’s a test known as the NOACK Volatility test, and it actually determines the amount of oil evaporation at extreme temps. If your oil evaporated and left you with a bunch of sludge mucking up your engine, the results wouldn’t be pretty. If an oil handles this test well it will last longer in your engine. Look for low evaporation losses as they indicate an oil will stand up longer in your engine and still offer good protection.

If an oil is actually tested in a lab and in the field with real engines, thoroughly tested, then there’s no reason it shouldn’t offer a guarantee and this will for sure be the best motor oil out there for your engine. My experience is very few bottles of oil actually offer a guarantee along with a warranty. When you do come across those oils that offer extended drain intervals of 7,000 to 35,000 miles, you still have to track down an oil filter that can handle that kind of load, otherwise you’ll still be spending time and money checking and buying oil filters. Go hunt them down and save yourself money, time, and the frustration of frequent oil changes.

Trying to find the best motor oil for your car then find more information from the best motor oil review

Synthetic motor oil gets a lot of hype from all sorts of media avenues like the internet, and if it lives up to all the hype then it’s something that we should all be using in our engines. The one thing that deters so many from considering its use is the high price tag in comparison to conventional oils. Does the high price tag come with any added benefits? We’re left asking…what is synthetic oil and does it really protect our engines better than conventional oil?

I am asked this question frequently and there are couple of ways it’s asked. One questions is “where does synthetic oil come from or what is made out of?”

Oil that is considered synthetic has been ’synthesized’ from other petroleum products. Essentially, the final product has been produced from smaller raw components such as ethane and coal.

Well, what’s the big deal? Oil’s composed of hydrocarbon chains, and the different lengths have different lubricating properties. An intelligent formulator knows exactly what hydrocarbon chain lengths he wants to get the oil properties he wants.

The other question I receive is “what is so good about synthetic oil?”

In a nutshell, synthetic oil doesn’t have nearly the same amount of impurities that standard oil does. The natural contaminants found in conventional oil such as paraffins and waxes are huge contributors to sludge formation and the longer they’re running through your engine the more they’ll alter the viscosity and pour point of your oil.

According to a search on the web, these are some of the top benefits that synthetic oil offers:

“synthetic motor oil provides better engine protection, higher performance, and better flow in the engine when it is cold and first started”

“synthetic oil is capable of withstanding higher temperatures without breaking down. This could provide longer oil life and better engine protection through the life of the oil change.”

“synthetic oil can last longer in your engine with the right set of additives. The base oil is less prone to breakdown and if the right amount of good additives are added oils have been known to last up to 35,000 miles or one year.”

I hope this has been informative in helping you choose the best motor oil for your engine.

A car depreciates in value right away once you drive a lot. So what can you do to make sure your car keeps for a long time?

A car depreciates in value right away once you drive a lot. So what can you do to make sure your car keeps for a long time?

Taking care of your car properly is one way of extending its life. Maintenance is taking care of everything from oil changes and tire rotation to cleaning the interior. Some items are do it yourself items, however some should be left to either a professional or the dealer.

So what do you take care of yourself and what do you leave for the dealer? Well the easiest way to break this down is ask yourself two questions. First, are your mechanically inclined? If you answer yes then there are many items you can and should take care of yourself, from oil and filter changes to exterior maintenance. You will spend less money and know that the job was performed accurately.

If you have a new car warranty then any and all items that are covered under the warranty should be taken care of by the dealer. Many automakers will allow for factory authorized mechanics to perform the warranty items. Check your warranty documents to be sure. If something is covered by the warranty its best to let the dealer take care of it.

It is also pertinent to follow the maintenance procedures suggested by your auto’s manufacturer. Keeping up with these items and keeping track of when they were performed is a valuable record that documents the care you have given your car. It is easy to say you took care of such and such at the recommended intervals but difficult to verify. When you make a note of each item there is no question as to the maintenance history of your vehicle.

Taking care of your car’s exterior is fairly painless. If you would rather have someone do this for you there are many detailers that will come to your home or office and keep your car looking showroom new, both inside and out. If you care to tackle this yourself there are many great products to help you maintain your vehicles appearance. Just make sure you follow directions and if you would like you can also keep track of when the cleanings took place.

It is inevitable that a new car will loose value. How much and how quickly it does so has a lot to do with how well you take care of your new cars’ maintenance. Keep it clean, keep it running properly and keep it a long time and your car will last for many years.

Cars are extremely very much prone to rust. They are exposed to all sorts of weather, be it sunny, humid, rainy, or snowy. And since moisture is an inevitable component within the atmosphere, your vehicle is bound to develop rust as time goes by. Only when it truly is regularly cleaned and waxed is rust kept at bay. What hastens the corrosion of rust? The principal factor could be scrapes, chips for the paint… any general breaks within the paint permit moisture to seep in and thus result to rust. How long you have had the car is also an issue; the older it’s, the much more vulnerable to rust it gets. Autos aren’t only carefully picked and bought out of necessity and require, they may be also status symbols.

So of what use are the pains that you just take on your appearance if the auto you drive is really a running rusty heap of metal? Not merely is that a severe dent on your image, far more importantly, it will pose a hazard not only to you but to individuals around you. Rust on automobiles eventually spread; prior to you know it, your automobile can be consumed by it. So it’s constantly much better to begin when there’s only minimal rusting going on.

So of what use are the pains which you take on your appearance if the automobile you drive is really a running rusty heap of metal? Not only is that a severe dent on your image, more importantly, it will pose a hazard not just to you but to individuals around you. Rust on autos eventually spread; before you know it, your car or truck will be consumed by it. So it truly is constantly superior to start when there’s only minimal rusting going on.

Mud contains moisture, leaving very much room for rust to acquire. Car rugs should be cleaned and washed. You can be surprised at what you may well discover about the floor: food, drink stains, etc. Besides those, though, car rugs contain moisture and salts transferred from shoes and bare skin (you’ll find individuals who like slipping off their shoes and driving with their bare feet, following all), and as you extremely well know, moisture and salts cause rusting to occur.

Cars are an integral part of our lifestyle. Besides helping us be productive, they may be also reflections of what sort of persons their owners are. And so it follows that driving a well-kept auto is an indication of just how properly you take care of yourself and your possessions.

Car valeting means, primarily, the job of cleaning and polishing both the inside and the outside of cars. Private car owners as well as garages and car rental companies are the commonest clients of car valets.

While the key business is cleaning, a car valet is required to have great marketing skills also. A car valet should discuss the details with a customer, and present his recommendations, before he starts on work. He should inspect the car thoroughly after finishing.

A car valet needs to look at the windscreen, the bodywork and the paintwork, and the wheels and tyres. Small parts such as mud flaps probably need to be changed. Inside, the engine as well as the windows and the upholstery require cleaning.

If you like to take up car valeting, you can set up on your own or look for employment with a company. You can work part-time as well as full time. If you desire to become a mobile car valet you’ll require your own car, and driving license, and will need to take the required equipments.

If you are dreaming up becoming a car valet, learn to operate the equipment well. Familiarize yourself with the various types of paint used on cars, as this determines the choice of material and technique of cleaning. Be conscious of health and safety issues, for a number of the cleaning solutions are toxic.

It entails about three hours to get a car ready and rolling. The work is physically tiring. So you must be fit and sturdy and should be all set to take the heat and the dust, or rain, as you’ll regularly be required to work outdoors. You should have good focus and an eye for detail, so as not to miss the tiniest scratch. You require to be a good communicator as well.

You don’t require to carry a formal certificate to find employment. But if you want training, there are many apprenticeship courses at several levels to help you. In practice, though, most car valets hone their skills by learning from more experienced colleagues.

Salaries fluctuate across countries. The demand in and around your locality, how many hours you work, whether you’re employed by a company or work alone, and your experience are contributing factors. Whatever be the situation, it is better not to go in the business of car valeting if you do not have a passion for cars.

There are always many cars that need repair work in Utah. Roads are filled with cars both day and night, and almost everyone who owns a car drives it someplace or other nearly every day. If you own a car, you know you need to keep it in good condition. It will be helpful to you to know a good place to take your car when it is not in such good condition.

Most people are not skilled at repairing their cars when problems arise. The best way to keep your car running well, then, is to find a reliable car repair shop in Utah, a shop that employs skilled and certified technicians who have the knowledge to find and fix your car’s problems. Internet research is one good way to find such a quality shop.

When you take your car to a repair shop, however, you should be prepared to describe the issues that have brought you there. That will help the technician a great deal in locating the problem, and perhaps even help him to get started more quickly – and finished more quickly, for that matter.

There are several common areas where cars often begin to have problems. You will want to be able to tell the people at the repair shop if you see any spots that might be from fluids, for example, or if there are any odd smells or sounds. Certainly you will want to tell them about any warning lights that have come on, or any smoke that you may have seen.

You will need to mention any starting issues your car may be having, or any sort of problems you see in its performance while driving. Any or all of these things may baffle you, but they will be clear indicators to your technician of where and what he needs to look at first.

Cars have many, many parts. You should choose a car repair shop which employs trained, professional technicians who are certified to work on all types of cars. That training should be updated regularly, because, of course, car models themselves change frequently in both large and small ways. And of course, the car repair shop should use state of the art equipment and diagnostic tools as well as high quality parts in working on your car.

Car repair can be difficult, because it means that your regular routine has to be interrupted while your car is out of service. A car repair shop that provides quick, quality work and excellent service will be a repair shop that will help to make your car repair experience much less stressful.
