In order for an engine to live any kind of life, motor oil changes prove to be a bare necessity. The question is that when it comes to vehicle maintenance, what constitutes too little or too much?

So I have to ask, when you read following questions… is this you?

Are you afraid to let your vehicle be handled by anyone else, in fear of some error taking place that may lead to extraordinary damage?

When that little puff of blue smoke exiting your tailpipe catches your attention out of the rear view mirror do you immediately assume it’s a piston wearing down that’s hell bent on destroying your engine?

Do you ever wonder if your spouse is motoring around town, running errands or what not, with the engine/oil light warning her from the dash, but figure he/she may keep tooling about figuring all is well until the engine actually quits on them? (Just for fun, you may want to pose the question during dinner tonight asking whether or not they know what to do should that scene actually pop up in life…will you even have an engine to work with anymore?)

If you ever let someone else change your oil, have you sensed that they could really mess things up and not add the proper amount of oil, be it too much or too less? You’ll end up with your engine foaming or your motor starving when romping around corners.

Let’s say that ‘young’ mechanic happens to get the oil level right, and now you’re concerned that they might cross thread your motor oil drain pan plug or far worse, they just forget about the plug entirely and now you’re engine is toast within a mere 5 minutes.

Aftermarket parts seem more than reasonable right now, however the quality is nearly invisible in comparison to OEM equipment (and who can afford that right now?).

Vehicles will outlive you, so long as you maintain them properly (and teach your offspring how to take care of yours when you’re gone).

What if your oil were as clean and clear when it was drained as it was the moment it was put in?

Are you attracted to Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil or Royal Purple or AMSOIL because they protect so good but you just don’t believe it?

If you answered yes to one or all of these questions then you might be a preventative maintenance freak! Just keep in mind that changing your oil and filters always comes first.
