Tips for Renting a Convertible Sports Car
22 Sep 2009
There’s nothing more exciting than driving a fun, sporty convertible down a long stretch of road, the wind in your hair. We can’t all afford to own and maintain a beautiful sports care of our own, of course, but we can hire one! Renting the convertible of your dreams for your next holiday can help you make your fantasies come true – here are a few tips to help.
Sports care hire is nothing new – it’s been going on since about the 1960s – but it used to be a lot harder to do and a lot more expensive, with few models available. Now, that’s not true, with plenty of companies offering a wide selection of cars that they know every inch of.
Plus, you won’t pay as much as you once had to, and the hassle is greatly reduced – sports cars can be rented almost anywhere, by almost anyone. You can even make your reservation online, to avoid long waits when you pick the car up.
Make sure you choose your company carefully, since you want a specialty firm that really knows sports cars. There should be plenty of options for you to choose from, and you should know as much as you can about them in advance. Make sure you’re getting a car with a safety and security record you’re comfortable with, and features you know you want.
Be sure you find out a few things in advance, like what your existing insurance coverage is and how it’ll affect your rental. Many auto policies offer coverage for rental cars, but it might not be the same for a convertible as it is for a sedan. Knowing your coverage can help you avoid having to pay for duplicate insurance later.
You’ll find that most companies that’ll rent you a sports car have some strict rules about insurance, and may ask you to buy some. Knowing what you already have, and reading the contract carefully, can help you save a lot of money. Be sure to be on the lookout for any hidden charges, to prevent an unpleasant surprise later on.
Remember that you may have trouble renting a sports care if you’re not old enough – generally twenty-five in most countries. Sometimes, the company will be willing to rent a car to you if you’re willing to pay a fee to have the age requirement waived, but don’t bet on it. You may also end up having to pay more in insurance if you’re not old enough to meet the age rules.
How will you be paying? Credit cards are the standard method, but if you’d prefer to pay another way, expect to have to leave a cash deposit, the value of which will vary according to the car you’re renting. It’s worth it to have the time of your life in a great convertible, however!
