Oil Changes Every 3,000 Miles Are Worth the Cost
28 Jul 2009
Regular oil changes every 3,000 miles or three months are the best investments that you can get for your car or truck. Staying on top of your oil change intervals, as busy as you may be, can be the difference between your car still driving like new after five years or prematurely turning into a “clunker” before its time.
Oil does much more for vehicles that people realize. Its has a lot of functions that it carries out. Its one of those items that people take for granted, quite naturally, and never know whats its actual purpose is unless something goes wrong.
What makes your vehicle actually go is a series of timed explosions meant to make pistons inside cylinder walls go up and down rapidly. When I say rapidly I am talking about thousands of times per minute. Imagine two files rubbing against one another just a couple of times per minute. Both wear out really fast. This is what would happen to your vehicle if not for motor oil. It serves as a barrier.
Thousands of explosions and constant shearing create a lot of heat inside your engine. So much that if it were not for motor oil your engine would quickly get past several hundred degrees and blow up. A vehicle’s motor oil is designed to absorb a lot of that heat and with the help of antifreeze keep your vehicle bellow 250 degrees Fahrenheit.
A huge service that motor oil does for your car is suspending sludge and and metal shavings that are in your engine. A lot of grime builds us in your engine and oil cleans and carries the grime out of your engine and to your filter.
There really is no reason for not staying on top of your oil changes in our modern day. Your motor oil takes a beating with all the duties its expected to perform and needs to be replaced on a regular basis. You can try to change the oil yourself but this can be quite challenging in newer vehicles without the right tools and you still have to dispose of the waste oil. In every town or city there is a quick lube not too far away from anyone eliminating any excuses for not getting an oil change when it comes time.
If you live in big town you might want to check and see if there is a mobile oil change service in your area. Many people do not even know they exist. These on-site oil change companies will come to your office and service your car while you are there. Some require a certain number of vehicles and some only do big fleets so you want to check with them first. But if you can get in than it takes all the guesswork and hassle out of getting an oil change. You just have to call them up and set up an appointment.
Stay on top of your oil changes. It will keep your vehicle running like new. Motor oil is the lifeblood of any engine and far too many people go thousands of miles past their vehicle’s proper interval. Its best to go 3,000 miles for any gas engine and 5,000 for diesels. Doing this will make sure you get a lot of good years out of your very expensive investment.
