Looking for lasting and reliable transportation without spending tons of money? Scooter maintenance is necessary in accomplishing your goal. Just like you keep up with the maintenance of your car or house, preventative maintenance done on your scooter will also prove to be very beneficial.

Checking your oil levels and change it regularly is one of the most important steps in maintaining your scooter. Changing your oil is very easy, takes about 5 minutes, and cost less than $5. Your owners manual will suggest the proper procedure for your scooter. Also recommended is changing your transmission oil every 6 months or 2000 miles.

Having proper tire pressure is very important in preventing accidents and prolonging the use of your tires. Checking your tire pressure is easy to do and should be done regularly. It is also a good idea to check for cracks in the value stem and extensive wear in your tires. Do not risk driving your moped with bad tires, your safety is more important.

One maintenance item many scooter riders ignore is checking the integrity of the frame. Check all hinges, joints, and quick releases and correct any problems before riding again. Your owners manual will provide ideas in what to check. Even though the maintenance schedule states to check bolt tightness every 6 months or 1000 miles, it is certainly a good idea to do it more frequently.

As far as changing your transmission or motor oils, spark plugs, air filters, etc., your owner manual will provide suggested maintenance schedule. Since some specific maintenance on scooters vary from scooter to scooter, check the owner manual for your scooter. By doing a little scooter maintenance regularly. you can avoid expensive repair or replacement cost and prolong your scooter experience.
