10 Money Saving Car Buying Tips

by David Redfoot

Here are some tips for buying a new car. The economy is on the skids but if you still have a little cash to spend, it could be good news for you. There has never been a better time to get a great deal on a car.

Buying a car is always a big deal and you don’t want to get it wrong. If the car is cheap, but not what you need, it’s not a good deal. This is not a decision to rush into now and regret later.

Like anyone else, the dealers are feeling the pinch, and they need to move cars. But they are not giving them away. They need to make the most of every deal. This means an opportunity for you, but also possible pitfalls.

Easiest Car Buying Tips

1. You need to shop between August and November if you want the newly released models. There will probably be few buyers around this year and good deals available.

2. Prepare for the salesman’s influencing tactics. If he is too pushy, you can leave. Plenty of other dealers will be happy to see you.

3. Hold out for a better deal. The prices may have been cut, but is what’s on show their best offer? They may have something in reserve to clinch the deal.

4. Is there a better deal online? Internet businesses still have lower overheads than bricks and mortar dealers. Do some research.

5. There is always room for negotiation. If they can’t lower the price any more, what can they throw in to sweeten the pot?

6. Most potential buyers will be weekend shoppers. If you can go in the week, you will get better attention. And it’s hard for them to negotiate tough when you are the only person on the lot.

7. Go to a car dealer near the end of the month. They will be trying to reach their monthly sales quota. They might need you to buy now rather than next week, and make it worth your while.

8. If you have little knowledge of cars, it pays to take someone with you. Some auto associations provide car inspection services. At least take someone with experience of the dealers persuasion tactics.

9. There is no need to rush a big decision like this. If a great deal ends today, another one will start tomorrow. If not with this dealer, then with another one.

10. Enjoy it. It’s fun looking for a new car. Get behind the wheel of a few and take a few test drives. Make the most of the experience. Why not take out an ATV before you decide on your little runaround.

Keep these tips in mind and get the best deal on your new car.
