It's not a beast off the line but it makes up for it with it's cornering and braking. The down side for some people, It's only a 2 seater. A 2000 or so Miata can be had with under 100,000 miles for $6,000 to $9,000 depending on the mileage and condition. For a little over $10,000 you can have the Honda s2000 which is rear wheel drive like the Miata and handles the corners really well, but it's got more "get up and go" than the Miata. It's also only a 2 seater and extremely fun to drive. Also, the Mini Coopers are great in the corners as well. And the Cooper S models are supercharged so they're fast as well. But they're newer so they will be more than the s2000 and the Miata. I personally like the s2000 and would get that. That is one heck of a car for any 14 year old kid.
