Kenny T asked:

I don’t think people should buy Corvettes and 911s if all they’re going to do if drive to and fro from work slogging around in traffic. What do you guys think? Shouldn’t you buy a car that fits the purpose of what you’re doing? If you’re going to buy a sports car buys a sports car thats built for the road like an RX-8 or a Mustang.

An RX8/ Mustang is just as much of a ” sports car” as any corvette or 911. A car is a car. The purpose of a car is to move a person from point A –> point B. I don’t see any reason whatsoever why a corvette or porsche cant be used as a commuter. I think you are basing this more on price then ” sport car”

For the same reason that people drive jacked up jeeps and 4WD trucks when they never go off road. The sports cars make more sense than those monsters which blind you with their out of adjustment lights and the ‘looking for a place to roll over’ suspensions.

For the same reason they buy 4 wheel drive and never go off road. Status, and because they want to.

It all comes down to personal preference. Some people simply prefer the feel of a low-slung sports car, and enjoy the speed and excellent handling even in day-to-day driving. It’s no different than people who buy an SUV to haul people… a job better done by a station wagon or minivan.

For what it’s worth, the Corvette and 911 are considered to be just fine for daily driving, especially compared to Astons and Ferraris and the like.

Good question. I race sports cars and used to drive a Porsche around town. Now I drive a BMW because I wanted a more comfortable ride. I get to drive about 20 miles of curvy road to and from work everyday. Driving a sports car on that road was a kick. Nothing handles like a Porsche or even a Vette.
Practicallity? Your right, it’s only for fun. However, one of my Porches got 28 mpg and my buddy’s vette get’s over 30 mpg on the highway.
I’ll take a Porsche or Vette over a Mustang any day for handling. Mazda is getting better and the Miata is a great handling car. Jury is still out on the RX-8 as they haven’t yet proved to be that competitive on the race track. May just be a numbers issue but I see very few racing. Kinda like not seeing many Nissan Z’s out there too.

Why do people buy HUMMERS if they never take them to WAR? why do people buy SUBURBANS and only drive with themselves in it? …..WHY ASK WHY?
