Ana asked:
Ok, all I am really comparing here are Corvettes and Vipers with Ferraris and Lamborghinis … the former cost anywhere from $80,000 and upwards, but the latter are like, $200,000 – $350,000. Why the huge price difference? Are Italian sports cars really that much better?

the engine design and style of Italian cars are much better than American, sure American cars has the muscle car but Italian cars, they just go with style and power. maybe that’s why the price is higher.

Yes…they ARE that much better. Also, there is a very limited number produced per year. The “super-cars” are made to extremely high precision standards, and there is a lot less robotics involved in production. Many are now 90% or more carbon composite, which is far more expensive to build with than aluminum and steel, and other exotic alloys and materials like titanium, magnesium, and others. Never turn down a chance to ride or drive one. After that, you will wonder no more.

The Italian cars (Ferrari,Maserati,Lamborghini)all have components and parts which are hand made, and then hand assembled then personally inspected by special teams of technicians,The materials, coachwork, mechanicals, and build quality are far superior to any other automobiles made ANYWHERE in the world.

well, Italian sports car’s are largely hand built. With that comes the advantage of quality control. The body structures are made from formed carbon fiber which helps lower the GVWR and most are mid or rear engine vehicles. When the engine is behind you the vehicle has far better weight distribution and has far less driveline power loss. Basically in a North American car you have engine-tranny-driveshaft-rearend-wheels but in the Italians its engine-tranny-wheels….
OVERALL….
the biggest price difference is because Ferrari and Lambo only make a few styles of car(and far lesser quantity of each) where Chrysler and GM make 40+ easy. Don’t kid yourself though the NA companies lose money on every Viper they make.

1. They don’t make as many per year as Dodge & Chevy. Some make you wait a year or two to even take delivery which is ridiculous! For that amount of cash they should bring it to your house and give you free gas for a year!
2. They are imported so that adds to the cost.
3. They’ve developed a mythical reputation so they can charge waaaaay more then they are worth and people with unlimited cash flow will line up to buy. A lot of these people don’t even drive them (or rarely do) it’s more of a status thing.

The American sports cars are made with cheap materials and their engines are more simpler than the Italian cars engines so they cost much less. Also, there are more Corvettes, Vipers, and Ford GT’s then there are Ferrari’s and Lamborghini’s and Maserati’s. Italian cars use the finest leather and state of the art material in their cars and they have much more technology packed in them.
